extends congratulations to Marcus
Hunter, the 2008-09 ABS-designated MFP Fellow through ASA.
Born in Newark, NJ, and raised in Philadelphia, PA, Marcus is a Ph.D.
Candidate in the Department of Sociology at Northwestern
University. After receiving his BA in History-Sociology and
in African American Studies from Columbia University, Marcus spent two
years in Philadelphia as an English teacher in Philadelphia’s public
schools. Currently, Marcus is the early research stages of his dissertation
project, which is a revisit of W.E.B. DuBois’ The Philadelphia
Negro. In this project he will be examining the political, cultural,
and social factors that led to the racial and socio-economic demographic
shifts over time in the 7th Ward specifically and Philadelphia more generally.
